Aren’t we getting a little ridiculous with the booster seats?

Hadassah Asked: Aren’t we getting a little ridiculous with the booster seats?

Apparently (I read in another answer) it's the law in the UK that kids up to age 11 have to ride in booster seats? I was taller than my mom at age 11 does that mean my mom needs a booster seat? I think past 8 years is just a little ridiculous and embarrassing for the kid. And what about tall kids? Their head could be up against the roof of the car.

i agree, setting an age makes no sense, you need to set an weight/ height

Arielle Answered:
Age is ridiculous. There needs to be a height/weight chart.

yeah we just started having to be in booster seats up to 7 and i thought that was a bit much, 11 is ridiuculous i was 5'7 when i was 11…i think i would have smashed my head on the roof

Yeah, pretty soon kids will be in booster seats until they get their driver's licenses.

It goes by age and/or weight/height.It's about safety.A person who isn't just the right height/weight will end up smeared all over the asphalt when in a serious accident.I'm pretty sure the paramedics and police are sick of scraping young peoples bodies off the ground.

Well, it definitely needs to be based on height, not age.I was nearly 5 feet tall when I was 11 so that would have been a bit ridiculous to have to have a booster seat based on age.

Rachel Answered:
I don't think the booster seat thing wouldn't be such an issue if the restraints in cars weren't based off the body of an adult. Till the day that we as consumers have more options in the way of safety restraints, boosters will be necessary for children those that are smaller.

Sosumi Answered:
Actually the law in the UK states that children under 135cm or 4ft 5 should have a booster seat, it has nothing to do with age. If a person under 4ft 5 is over 18 and chooses not to have an adapted car seat, then that is thier problem. If your mother was under 4ft 5 then I would say she should have had an adapted seat or car!

Cheshire Answered:
I'd rather a child be embarrassed and alive than cool and dead. Seat belts are made for adults, not children. Children and pre-teens need to remain in boosters until they are tall enough that the seat belt will protect them in an accident. If you take a child out of a booster to soon, the seat belt can cause fatal injuries in a crash.

Star is a chick Answered:
In the state i live in the booster seat age ends when the child is 80 pounds. I think 80 pounds is appropriate. I don't think a child would be embarrassed. Better embarrassed then dead anyway.
